Ocean Adventure of Subic Bay Freeport Launches Samar Relief Effort

Our friends at Ocean Adventure Marine Park  and Camayan Beach Resort in Subic Bay Freeport have just launched a relief effort directed at Maslog, one of the coastal barangays of Lawaan, Eastern Samar. (Maslog is one coastal barangay — Guinob-an, our hometown, is another of the coastal barangays of Lawaan.) We’re hoping that this project, spearheaded by Ocean Adventure CEO Tim Desmond and his wife Josie Advincula Desmond, who is from Maslog, will get the same kind of support that we have gotten for our Guinob-an Emergency Food Aid Project. We wish them good luck and will be doing our best to support them, as they have helped support our relief project. (And stay tuned, there are more of these coming online in coming days.)

Project Description

Hard to reach villages in the Philippines are not getting the relief they need, but we can get to them with your help.

Ocean Adventure’s CSR mission and the Desmond family is rolling out a 3 phase program to remote areas of Eastern Samar, one of the hardest hit areas of typhoon Haiyan.

Phase 1 

Establish Security for Land & Sea Operations
Verify Open Route to Deliver by Land
Re-establish Contact Between Relatives
Assessment of Needs
Immediate Food, Supplies & Medical Aid

Phase 2 
Prepare Floating Medical Clinic on 66’ Yacht
Provision Operating and Medical Supplies for One Month
Motor/sail from Subic to Maslog, Samar
Transport volunteer medical personnel to and from Samar
Maintain overland relief lifeline until major intl sources of support are fully established

Phase 3 
Continuing Medical Support
Long Term Recovery Planning and Funding

Details
We have arranged security from the military, police and other groups throughout the entire route. We will consume no resources within the affected areas for our operations. The yacht was donated by the JP Palen family of Colorado. Local groups and individuals are donating relief supplies to be sent on trucks. We will motorsail the Bayani to Samar and take up station off Maslog and begin providing medical services for at least one month to not only Maslog but several barangays of Lawaan as resources permit.

This project has just gotten listed online so that it can take donations from the US and elsewhere — but a key factor is that the project orgarnizers have already raised $18,000 locally at Subic Bay Freeport, and have already deployed their first team and first delivery of food and supplies.
