As many but not all who visit here know — my wife Lorena Llevado Sellers is a native of Guinob-an, one of the barrios of Lawaan, Eastern Samar. Back in 1901 Lawaan was an outlying barrio of Balangiga …. so you can see how my fascination with Balangiga and Samar is tied in with our family history and tradition.
Rena’s memoir about growing up in Samar is entitled Daughter of Samar, and it’s available on Amazon (here is the link) – but we also decided to give it its own website where the whole book is available to read.
The website is DaughterofSamar.com..
This beautifully written book tells of a better life in the country . . . of a simple life as actually lived . . . not the contrived simplicity of someone escaping complication. . . It is as if, if she had to live her life all over again, she would live as she did without the smallest improvement
